Eastern Review Magazine Drum Corps

The syncopated sound of the "Big Town" with the New York, New York and 42nd Street, is brought forth by the energetic direction of Bob Lopez, DM of the night. It is a new sound in Junior Drum Corps and is done well and in good taste, throughout the exciting show show of the New York Knickerbockers, which has a fine bass section. Bob Lopez carries himself beyond this world as he directs an excellent concert and brings drive to this hard hitting Knickerbocker unit. A smittering of a dance between the Cymbalist, who does an excellent job in the department and the DM bring about the only gimmick of this corps. "Yankee Doodle" is played as the corps does a series of criss-cross steps interwined with various obliques and standstill pivots to pick up the colors and bring them back to the strains of a beautifully arranged mixture of "Yankee Doodle" and "America". The drum section has some extremely difficult patterns but handle them quite well. The mingling of silks and rifles all combined, to give its spectators a well balanced show musically ahd G.E. wise.
