Eastern States Jr. Drum & Bugle Corp Competition in York Saturday

The Knickerbockers, competing against four other corps, was easily the most popular group to perform , as far as the crowd was concerned. The Judges felt differently, however (using a more technical means of deciding the comparative performances of the corps), and the Knicks placed third.

There were comments in the audience to the effect that the corps from the city which traveled so far would not want to return to York after being treated so shabbily by the judges. Instead, the group, although obviously upset, gave a rousing concert for many who gathered around it in the parking lot.

We think this is a wonderful tribute to our city and also to groups of young people who work hard and travel many miles to compete with one another and entertain their loyal fans.
